Where the Wave Breaks

Water never forces its way through. It listens, softens, and finds the gap. I think about this a lot when I’m in the sea, and even more when I’m standing over a canvas with a loaded brush.

This painting came from that idea. I worked across the surface with my whole body, letting each gesture follow the one before it, the way a current follows the shape of the seabed. Some movements are quick and sure. Others slow down, pool, and change direction. I didn’t plan where they would go. I trusted the rhythm, and when the paint met resistance, I let it shape the next move.

Layer by layer, the surface has built up a kind of memory, like the traces left by tides and erosion. As the light shifts, you may notice new depths and tones appearing beneath the surface.

Testimonials

I have been following Lara’s art work for a while. I knew that I wanted to bring her work into my home. When I saw Water Carving Its Own Path my husband and I decided that was the one. Lara worked with us to find a way to make this happen. She communicated every step of the way, sending videos of the framing and packing process. The piece is even more beautiful than pictured. I highly recommend her work, artistry and customer service.
