Lara Sayegh is a British-Iraqi artist, based in London who skilfully manipulates natural forms of the environment in an abstract formation. This invites her audience on a journey of depth and compositions inspired by nature and the environment. Most of her works are made using gestural brushstrokes which record a rhythmic motion on the canvas. Working primarily in oil, her practice explores the relationship between movement, light and elemental forces of the natural world.

Lara's paintings are informed by her close relationship with the sea through surfing and kitesurfing. Inspired by these experiences, Lara creates large-scale abstract paintings through luminous layers of oil paint, fluid gestures and richly textured surfaces that evoke the rhythm of waves, shifting currents and underwater light. Balancing spontaneity with precision, her paintings convey a sense of movement, depth and atmosphere without depicting the landscape directly. These experiences influence her understanding of movement, rhythm and the elemental forces of nature, forming the foundation of her abstract practice. Her paintings remain intentionally open to interpretation, encouraging viewers to slow down and form their own emotional connection with each work.

Since beginning to share her practice publicly in 2021, Lara has gained significant international visibility. Her filmed painting process, marked by sweeping gestures, resonated widely online, reaching over 21 million viewers and positioning her as one of the most influential emerging artists within the digital contemporary art sphere.
